i couldn't get pass one rep of proper full range pull ups the first time attempting it years back. I feel you, if you hate chin ups & just want to pass on it every time you were asked to do it.

The key players of strength & hypertrophy gains is volume (sets x reps x weight lifted). Work on the volume you can achieve on this exercise. What's easier than 3 sets of 10? 10 sets of 3. Overtime, make it to 10 sets of 4 & more.

Can't do one rep? Practice with assistance or machines first. Just make sure you're maintaining proper form. What is proper form? Fully straightened your arms at the bottom of each rep. Engage your core & recruit your lats in the best you can.
